The Rise School is located in Hounslow and has a relationship with Local Authorities across London and the Home Counties. The school admits pupils, with a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), where the school is named on the child’s Statement of Special Educational Needs or within their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Funded Places in 2016-17: 64 The school teaches the national curriculum within an age appropriate range and placements should be considered with this in mind.
Places are usually taken up at the start of the school year but may be accessed at any time of the year by arrangement with the Head Teacher. The Rise School admits children who have a primary diagnosis of ASD and who require specialist schooling, but who may proceed to different levels of inclusion in mainstream education. Each application is considered on an individual basis. In each case the school’s application process evaluates the needs of the individual child to determine whether:
The child’s main presenting special educational need is ASD;
The school is able to make provision suitable to the child’s age, ability, aptitude and special educational needs;
A placement would be compatible with the interests of other children already in the school; and
A placement would be an efficient use of existing resources.
Parents are very welcome and strongly encouraged to visit the school prior to stating it as a preference for their child. A Local Authority will consult with the school prior to naming it, in line with its statutory obligations. The school will respond within 15 days, from the date the referral is received. The school’s response is determined by the documentation received (i.e. Statement of SEN/EHCP, Annual Review reports, professional assessments) and by observing the child. The observation should ideally be conducted in the child’s current nursery or school placement. Where this is not possible, individual arrangements will be made. The school’s multi-disciplinary panel will consider each referral prior to making a response within the 15 day requirement. After admission pupils are provided with a 6 week assessment period on entry to school to determine adequate resource to meet individual need.
